Torlon® PAI (polyamide-imide) combines the special properties of thermoset polyimide with the advantages of melt-processable thermoplastics. Abrasion-resistant grades offer good performance in both dry and lubricated environments. High strength grades maintain their toughness, strength and stiffness at temperatures up to 275°C (525°F), making PAI one of the higher performing thermoplastics in the industry. It also has broad chemical resistance, including strong acids and organics.
Torlon balls are widely used in automatic transmissions and within sailboat cable sheaves because of their excellent resistance to high pressure, salt spray, oil resistance, abrasion resistance, and low density.
HONY plastic has developed high precision PAI ball bearings for gearbox valve plates and sailboat cable pulleys using Solvay's Torlon 4203 raw material, injection molding, curing, grinding and polishing processes.
